Following their dramatic victories in the World Cup qualifying rounds and their qualification for the World Cup Finals, the Trinidad and Tobago national U20 men’s soccer team became a team that now generates a healthy level of both respect and fear from opponents across the globe. Combining a world class level of athleticism and iron clad mental toughness, the team emerged from a very tough qualifying pool to land the ultimate prize – a place in the World Cup Finals.

One of their keys has been the decision of world class soccer manager for T&T’s U20 program - Chris DeSilva - to provide an approach to training that involves strategic components (game time tactics), athletic components (strength, speed, agility and quickness) and mental components (poise, focus, performance consistency, big game preparation and confidence). In the qualification stage of the World Cup tournament, Chris Desilva invited Icebox Athlete to assist the team in developing the mental toughness necessary to qualify for the World Cup Finals. Chris commented:

“We invited Spencer Wood to deliver his Icebox Mental Toughness workshops to our players while they were training in Trinidad and Tobago and then to travel with the team to Cyprus and Egypt after we had qualified for the World Cup Finals. We were extremely pleased with the results. Our players developed a level of poise under pressure and focus that helped us to manage our mistakes well and play to our potential in the really big games. The results speak for themselves…we qualified for the World Cup Finals in dramatic fashion.”
